WHAT DOES LETS STAND FOR?
Local Energy Trading System. This is a non-profit community – based exchange system, where members swap goods, skills and services for points/credits instead of money – our group calls these credits “Tokens”.
HOW DOES LETS WORK?
With direct bartering you only deal with one other person. With LETS you have many members to exchange with, thus giving you a wider scope of skills/talents to choose from.
WHAT IF I “SPEND” MORE THAN I “EARN”?
On joining new members are given a “gift” of 120 points (Tokens) to begin trading. There is no problem with having a debit balance, as long as trading is reasonably even. An acceptable debit balance is an indication that, at some future date, you have committed to contributing to
another member of the group, or to the group as a whole, by offering them a service. For advice please ring any committee member listed in the newsletter.
HOW DO I CONTACT A MEMBER FOR SERVICES?
Refer to the Printed Directory or our Website, where all members’ skills and services being offered are listed, together with their phone numbers and suburbs.
HOW WILL I KNOW THE COST OF A SERVICE?
ALWAYS ASK AND MUTUALLY AGREE ON THE COST in points/tokens BEFORE committing to an exchange. Some transactions are Tokens only; some are part cash/part points. (Usually Tokens for labour and cash for materials.) For example: Tokens only for a weeding job, but to have a lawn mowed, there would be a $$ cost for mower fuel. Remember that the Golden Rule is AGREE BEFORE TRADING.
WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO PROVIDE THE REQUESTED SERVICE?
There is no obligation to provide a service at an inconvenient time or that is out of your range of expertise. If unable to help at the requested time, then offer a couple of alternative options to suit both of
WHAT DO I GET WHEN I JOIN?
You get an explanatory welcome letter, a current Directory, the latest newsletter, and a Transaction Record book. Newsletters are published quarterly and are optionally available via email. The Directory is updated every 6 months and new members are listed in newsletters
in between directory updates. You will also receive a gift of 120 tokens to encourage a quick start.
ARE THERE ANY TAX IMPLICATIONS?
There may be for some members, particularly those operating a business. Seek advice from your accountant.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO JOIN?
$10 joining fee & $20 annual fee – (concession $10). This covers the cost of paper, photocopying and postage for the production of newsletters, directories, transaction booklets, participation in festivals, phone, office and computer costs.
HOW DO I JOIN?
Complete the application form, cut it out and post it, together with a cheque/money order payable to Warranwood LETS Live Inc. Payments in the period Mar- May are 100%, in June-Aug are 75%, in Sep-Nov are 50% and in Dec-Feb are 25% of the annual fee
